When you looks at your friend's pictures of Destin and Crab Island one of the biggest things that is noticed is the color of the water. We are blessed by amazing waters here on the Emerald Coast. These waters however are not always perfect in every photo. This is because are waters are influenced by the tides. Are the waters bad? No never? Are they picturesque? That is subjective to the viewer. Here is the explanation behind the beautiful turquoise waters. Whenever there is a relatively strong high tide, it bring in clean ocean water from the Gulf of Mexico and causes all the Choctawhatchee Bay waters to recede causing a bubble of of the brilliant turquoise and almost clear water you see that extends past Crab Island. The stronger the incoming tide the more brilliant the waters will be as long as there have been no storms in the Gulf to stir up the ocean. This is also why you see all the boats facing towards the Gulf as the water rushes in. When you have a high tide later ideally about 3pm, then you have the brilliant blue waters most of the day. A good way to know if you'll have those waters for your booking is to check the the NOAA website Tide tables for Destin East Pass. If you see a tide close to a 1.0 that is a strong high tide.
